Site Content

The PEACE Programmes Learning Platform includes information for all four phases of the EU funded PEACE Programme.  The Platform will continue to evolve over the coming years, with the inclusion of new projects funded under the PEACE PLUS Programme.  Information includes:

  • PEACE I Programme (1995-1999):
  • Information from 1994 relating to the evolution and planning stages for the PEACE I Programme.
  • Almost all PEACE I documentation has been located and scanned from hard-copy materials held in the archive where no digital copy exists. Such documents have been digitised for use and are fully searchable.
  • PEACE II Programme (2000–2004) and PEACE II Extension (2004–2006):
  • Some of the PEACE II documentation has been located from hard-copy; information held in archive where no digital copy exists. These materials; have been digitised and are fully searchable.
  • PEACE III Programme (2007-2013)
  • PEACE IV Programme (2014-2020)

The PEACE Platform includes reports, briefing papers, academic research, evaluations, good practice handbooks, newsletters, press and promotional information, case studies, videos and audio recordings as well as our Lead Partner Interactive Map.

The search facility within The PEACE Programmes Learning Platform is very feature rich.  A site wide search exists in the banner of each page and this can be used to search keywords or phrases across the site either for a specific word or for a phrase - if entered within quotes e.g.: "Shared Education".  These searches will bring back a high level view of results - how many Projects, Reports, and elements of media that match that key word or phrase.

In addition, within the Learning tab the user is presented with a variety of ways to search and navigate through the data.  For example, Users can view the following:

  • List of documents and media, allowing the user to scroll through, click and read | review.
  • Icons showing thumbnails of documents (and media), which; allows the user to click and read | review.
  • Descriptive content and thumbnail of document | media (Title, author, publication date, PEACE Phase).

A user can search bibliographic; fields for example, Title, Author, Publication Date, through the primary catalogue search box on the Reports Search Learning Page.

This option also allows the user to view documents by PEACE Phase (see 1 above), Document Classification (see above), Theme | Stakeholder (see above), size and download.

Title:                                   Users can sort documents alphabetically by title.

PEACE Phase:                   Users can sort documents by the PEACE Programme Phase i.e. PEACE I, PEACE II, PEACE III or PEACE IV.

Document Classification:   Users can sort documents by; Classification.

Theme | Stakeholder:         Users can; sort documents by Themes and Stakeholders.

Publication Date:                Users can sort documents by publication date.

Size:                                   Users can sort documents by how much disk space they use.

Downloads:                        Users can sort documents by the number of times they were downloaded.

Other types of search include:

  • Full-text Search: Use keywords to search the full text of; ALL documents held within the PEACE Programmes Learning Platform.
  • Themes | Stakeholder Search: Search inside the collection; of materials that have been created (see further details above).
  • Single-volume Search: When viewing a document, use keywords; to search inside that volume alone, for example ‘case study’. Once a document has been selected, users can click on the document to readit and scroll through the pages.  All documents and reports are fully searchable.

Multiple search words can be used and where these occur more frequently it will produce a better match.

An entire phrase can be entered within the subsections (Reports, Projects, Media searches) too by using double quotes e.g.  "Shared Education" - in this case only the entire phrase will be matches.

Boolean operations can also be used, but must be in capitals, e.g. Tyrone AND Donegal, or Newry OR Dundalk.

NOTE: Every field where data may be entered for search purposes, has a question mark[?] icon.  When the mouse pointer hovers over this or it is tapped on a mobile device, a short contextual help box is provided for that field.

  • The majority of documents on the PEACE Programmes Learning Platform have been digitised and OCR enabled.
  • Please note that PEACE I and PEACE II records were created by scanning documents and books as image files and OCR was enabled using automated; processes, and as a result these materials can contain errors. There are a small number of documents that may not contain any OCR.  These are usually handwritten transcripts / visual materials that cannot be OCRed.

This message is displayed in the following cases:

  • Pages were missing from the library’s print copy. If a document appears to have a missing page, this generally means that two pages are missing, since publishers generally print on both sides of the page.  So, if pages 41-42 of a document are missing, there should be two pages with the message “Page not available” between pages 41 and 42.
  • One or more pages were not scanned as they were missing from the original hard copy.

The majority of the documents and media in the PEACE Programmes Learning Platform are in English with around 2% in the Irish Language and Ulster Scots. For non-English language materials we have not implemented a browser mark-up that tells assistive technology the language of the book.  Users may have to manually switch the language in their screen reader to correctly translate and read the text.

Please contact us by email @ peaceplatform@seupb.com to report any problems encountered.

Unfortunately, any problems found within PEACE I or PEACE II documents may not be able to be resolved as these are the best; quality scanned copies available.

Users who have set up an account can add additional information by selecting the Contribute function under the Collaboration heading.  This menu is only visible when registered users logged in.  Selecting "Contribute" will bring the user to a form enabling them to describe recommended content or updates and point the SEUPB to the location of additional materials for consideration for inclusion on the platform. The SEUPB will review the information and contact the user directly.

The map on the Dashboard of the Learning tab shows an overview of Lead Partner locations.  The clusters of Lead Partner locations can be zoomed in on this map, but this map is intended for the purpose of overview only.  For more detail, a user can view specific Lead Partner locations in response to their project queries within the Query feature under the learning tab.

To date, only Lead Partner addresses for PEACE II, III and IV are used to generate geographical designations on the Platform’s map. It should be noted that the scope of project activity extends beyond the locations listed or may be based in a different location. Where provided, project description summaries and case-studies give further context as to the nature and scope of project activity.

The PEACE Platform is a dynamic, evolving repository. We very much welcome your assistance in making this map feature more reflective of all the locations where PEACE Programmes have had an impact. Should you wish to submit project partner address details to be added to the map, please email peaceplatform@seupb.eu

How to Use

The PEACE Programmes Learning Platform aims to provide accessible information.  We meet the following web accessibility guidelines

Note that while we have done our best to make the Platform accessible, the documents were created through methods and in formats that may not meet the needs of all users. We have provided information below about the accessibility; of the content in the Learning Library.

Members of the PEACE Programmes Learning Platform can download documents in their entirety. From the Home page, users can navigate to any of the documents in the Learning Library.

PDF files that are downloaded from the PEACE Programmes Learning Platform contain the OCR; text embedded within the file.  Users can extract the OCR text using PDF; reader software such as Adobe Reader.

Select the report you are interested in and either view it in the live viewer within the web page or download the report to your local drive.

Once it is displayed use the + and – symbols at the top of the viewer to control the magnification of the text to your desired size.

Reports can be viewed within an embedded viewer, either in the report search page as an overview or in each report’s details page.

The embedded report viewer allows the user to zoom in or out of the page.  In addition every report can be downloaded and viewed in the users own PDF viewer in full screen by selecting the full screen button.

An anonymous visitor to the site can access all of the content on the site mentioned above for the Learning Platform, Timeline, Story of PEACE and home page.

Collaboration is a key feature of the PEACE Platform. As a dynamic, evolving repository, we encourage and greatly appreciate your help in enriching the Platform's content. We have created a simple form template to enable users to contact us with information they wish to submit to the Platform. This form can be accessed by setting up an account, and selecting the 'Collaborate' feature, followed by the 'Contribute' button. This form will then be sent to SEUPB staff, who will review. We may contact you to further discuss your contribution to the Platform. We also welcome the use of this feature for the submission of project locations for the PEACE Platform Map. Details for how to submit are also available in the map section.

Over the coming months, we will continue to create new additions within the 'Collaborate' feature. This will include the ability to further collaborate with the platform, communicate with other users, as well as share ideas and learnings via a user forum. We will contact users with further details in due course.
